How do I enable custom YouTube thumbnails?

Verify the channel

The steps come from [Verify your YouTube account](https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/171664). Custom upload also needs a verified account per [Add custom thumbnails on YouTube](https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/72431). Trust the label on your screen if YouTube moved a word.

Open [youtube.com/verify](https://www.youtube.com/verify).

Enter a phone number. Get a code by text or voice call. Finish the steps.

Come back to YouTube Studio → Content → open the video → Details. **Upload file** should be available under **Thumbnail**.

A phone number can be linked to no more than 2 channels per year. If you hit that cap, you need a different number.
